Do Cavapoos Shed?

In my lines, Cavapoos shed very little. After an hour of serious snuggling, you might find a hair or two on your shirt. That is the everyday experience I’m describing when I talk about a low-shedding Cavapoo.

My perspective comes from raising my own Cavapoos and staying in touch with many families as their puppies become adults. Both my F1 and F1b puppies have given those families the minimal shedding they were hoping for.

How much do Cavapoos shed

I sometimes jokingly describe it as “two or three hairs per hour.” That’s a playful picture of how little shedding I notice, not a measured rate.

A stray hair on your shirt after a long cuddle is a better picture of my experience than a promise that you will never find a single hair. Low shedding does not mean absolutely no shedding.

Do F1 or F1b Cavapoos shed more

In my lines, both F1 and F1b Cavapoos shed so little that the difference is negligible in everyday life. That comes from my own experience and ongoing feedback from families as their puppies grow into adults.

I wouldn’t choose an F1b over an F1 solely because you expect noticeably less shedding. In my program, F1 puppies already offer the minimal shedding many families are looking for.

If you’re comparing generations, my F1 vs F1b Cavapoo guide explains their ancestry and the differences I notice in my puppies.

Does a curlier Cavapoo coat mean less shedding

I would not use curl alone to choose between my puppies for shedding. I commonly see F1b Cavapoos with the same soft, wavy appearance people associate with F1s, and I see very little everyday shedding across both generations in my lines.

Choose the coat appearance you enjoy rather than assuming that the curliest puppy, or the puppy with more Poodle ancestry, must be the better choice for minimal shedding.

Do Cavapoo puppies go through a shedding stage

Some of my Cavapoo puppies go through a brief, light puppy-shedding stage. Not every puppy does, but it is something seen in the hybrid breed.

In the puppies I’ve observed, this has been a one-time stage that typically passes in a week or two. As their coats continue to develop into the anticipated thick and full cavapoo coat we all love.

I have not noticed a recurring seasonal shedding pattern in my lines, and that has not been something families have ever reported to me either.

Brushing your Cavapoo can be part of your bonding time

My advice is to make weekly brushing a bonding ritual. Think of it as petting your puppy, just with a brush in your hand.

Keep the brush nearby so it becomes a familiar part of spending time together. You can work it into those quiet moments when your puppy is already enjoying your company.

That weekly routine is my starting point. If you notice tangles between sessions, brush more often and adjust the routine to your puppy’s coat and the length you keep it.

Does low shedding mean hypoallergenic

Low shedding is often confused with being allergy-free, but they aren’t the same thing.

Several clients who described having severe dog allergies have taken home one of my F1 Cavapoos and later reported no allergy symptoms with their dog. Those are meaningful experiences, but they cannot predict how another person will react.

Neither F1 nor F1b is a guarantee against allergies. I would not promise that a particular puppy will be allergy-free for your household.
